DICK MARCONI

DICK MARCONI IS CURRENTLY FEATURED AT THE 2015 PHILHARMONIC HOUSE OF DESIGN -

Dick Marconi has been innovating and leaving his mark in many endeavors throughout his life. Although creating art is one of his greatest passions, Marconi is also widely recognized as a noted philanthropist, for his Marconi Automotive Museum and Foundation for Kids and for having built a business empire.

Born in Gary, Indiana in the 1930s just before the pre-war steel boom of World War II, Marconi was twelve years-old when he became blinded in both eyes as a result of a chemical accident. Slowly over time, he began to regain some vision in his right eye. The result was black and white and devoid of color and depth. Through sheer determination and visual concentration, Marconi was able to retrain his brain and soon saw immense color - more vibrant than he ever remembered.  In the 1990’s, after many years of experimenting, Marconi began to create abstract forms using mixed media and found objects. These rapid and expressive non-objective paintings have obscured the typical figure-ground composition, laying the groundwork for his signature painting technique, “Color Fusion”. Marconi works on a horizontal surface manipulating the paint and abandoning traditional uses of brushes for a more physical approach. Marconi negotiates with liquid surfaces of color and medium making chance an integral part in the color fusion recipe.

This unique method uses bold imaginative colors and innovative movement to achieve a composition that can only be reached through the wondrous forces of nature and its ability to marbleize colors and lines. Colors are massaged into swirls, curves and extended strings and are followed with even more application of color. After intense scrutiny, the paint is then activated by Marconi in a signature technique which allows the colors to immerse and blend themselves on to the board. This process allows for colors and textures that are impossible to create with a brush or palette knife. The result is an amazing creation of vibrancy that brings energy not just to the painting, but an immediate empowerment to the piece that transcends the room for an instant cosmic energy shift.

In 2011, Dick Marconi was selected to show at the prestigious Florence Biennale in Italy and was also considered to receive the international award at the event.  Marconi’s paintings are exhibited in Galleries in Italy, New York and California, and can be found in many Private Collections throughout the world.
